Every time our body runs into a wall on the path to well-being, we can look deeply into the health and condition of planets in our chart in order to begin prescribing remedial measures. The seven visible planets and two shadow planets (Rahu and Ketu) relate to certain foods, colors, aromas, mantras, gemstones, yogas, deities, as well as lifestyles, which allow us to bolster or suppress out-of-balance energies in our body.

As an example, if the Sun is in a weakened state in a chart, physical symptoms will include “low energy, pallor, anemia, cold extremities, weak digestion, poor appetite, a weak or slow pulse, heart issues, and poor circulation. There may be edema, accumulation of water and phlegm and general hypofunction of the organs and nervous system. The eyesight may be poor. There may be arthritis and weakness of the bones. Their resistance will be low, particularly to cold and damp conditions,” David Frawley.

As profoundly impactful as this list is, there are certain herbs that help to boost or reduce solar function in the body, depending on your condition, alleviating the above symptoms. “Solar energy is increased by taking spicy and fiery herbs like cayenne, black pepper, dry ginger, pippali, saffron, calamus, bayberry and cinnamon (specifically the Ayurvedic formula Trikatu). Calaums is best for the sattvic side of solar energy in the mind.

Extending the above example, we can look to Ayurveda which will also classify each planet with a certain dosha. The Sun, our galactic fireball, is no surprise Pitta in nature. In the Vedic tradition, contrary to Western astrology, the Sun is viewed as a malefic, with the power to incinerate and overpower neighboring associations. Keeping a balanced Sun is the path toward humility and self-will uniting.

Speaking to lifestyle adjustments to make for a weakened Sun, activities that require creative and independent thought, courage, and leadership will be beneficial. Challenge fears, and bring light into all the dark corners of the mind. Learn how to appear in public alone and becoming able to spend time alone, and remember to take initiative. Sunbath for around 20 minutes/day, and rise in the morning to greet the Sun, and bid farewell at sunset.

Namaste!
