In a world where we are constantly bombarded by stimulus and an overwhelming plethora of selections it can be difficult to know what to choose. In every realm of life it seems we have hundreds of options to select from. This can be not only overwhelming, but hindering in taking action when we are unsure of what to accept. Yet, we must make decisions to move forward. I embraced Ayurveda because of a resonance I felt with the science and I have not been disappointed by how it has affected my life.  I continue to turn to Ayurveda because it is time tested, all encompassing, empowering, works with natural rhythms and is intuitive in simplifying staying healthy, balanced and in tune.

Ayurveda, the science of life, is a 5000-year-old healing methodology, which incorporates the use of food, herbs, and lifestyle techniques to resolve health related issues. This modality is based on ancient traditions that are being widely accepted in the Western World today due to the powerful impacts a balanced diet and lifestyle can have on our health and vitality. Ayurveda focuses on attuning people with their unique make up and with the natural rhythms of nature around them to maintain health.

Ayurveda looks to get to the root of a disease. We focus on not simply masking or temporarily relieving symptoms, but getting to the origin of the cause and really healing people. This difference between Allopathic and Ayurvedic medicine is what makes Ayurveda stand out as a healing system. Often time’s western medicine falls short in diagnosis and although people have many discomforting symptoms, even after a plethora of invasive tests there is still no answer or direction of healing. Drugs prescribed often have many adverse side effects, do not heal the ailment, and only cause more discomfort. In Ayurveda, we use gentle techniques including education on right food choices, lifestyle suggestions, and herbs to restore balance and health. Although western medicine has a time and place and can be wonderful in saving lives in times of acute ailments, Ayurveda looks at the person as a whole and strives to heal conditions that are often times labeled as “chronic” by western medicine.

Over the years Santa Cruz Ayurveda has helped clients with diabetes, skin issues, and food sensitivities see extremely positive results. Serious athletes have also seen increased levels of performance. The spectrum of people that can be helped is truely limitless. Whether you are suffering from a long lasting disease, minor ailments, or are just curious about furthering your health, Ayurveda can help you.

The goal of Ayurveda is to get you in back in tune with the essence of “who you are” to bring out your souls purpose. I find this pillar to be such a beautiful piece of Ayurveda and do not know any other healing system whose core goal lies in this. Through practicing and integrating, Ayurveda has brought me into greater balance, awareness and vibrancy in all aspects of my life. Due to these mentioned factors, along with more than can fit in this article, Ayurveda stands out to me so I continue to embrace it and share it with those around me. I encourage you to give it a try and see how it affects your life.
